Counting with PomPoms

Updated: Sep 10, 2019

A fun and simple way to prepare your little ones for preschool by teaching them numbers and counting while working on their fine motor skills.

What you’ll need:

  • White (or light colored) cupcake holders

  • Marker

  • Pompoms

  • Tongs

2 Easy Steps:

  • Write numbers 1-10 on the inside of the cupcake holders

  • Place a pile of pompoms and a pair of tongs near the cupcake holders

Have your children say the number they see written inside the cupcake holder out loud and then count out the same amount of pompoms. Using their fine motor skills, have them pick up the correct amount of pompoms and place them in the cupcake holders.

To create more of a challenge for older children, call out a simple math problem (for example: 2+2) and let them use the pompoms to solve the problem. Once they know the sum, they should use the tongs to lift that many pompoms into the correct cupcake holder.
